2 war crimes accused held in Noakhali
Police today arrested two “Razakars” in Noakhali for their alleged involvement in crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.
The arrests come hours after the International Crimes Tribunal issued warrant against five war crimes accused including the two.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Anwarul Haque issued the warrant in response to a petition by prosecution.
While moving the petition, Prosecutor Zahid Imam also pressed three war crimes charges against the five accused from Sudharam upazila of Noakhali.
According to the charges, the five were involved in the killing of at least 111 people in three incidents in 1971.
The arrestees are: Amir Ahmad alias Razakar Amir Ali, 70, of Uttar Fakirpur and Md Joynal Abedin, 73, of Syedpur (Natun Dewanbari) village in Shudharm upazila.
Police arrested Amir Ahmad from his Uttar Fakirpur house around 2:00pm while Joynal Abedin from his Syedpur home around 5:30pm, Mirza Mohammad Hasan, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Shudharam Model Police Station, told The Daily Star.
