Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque today said although the Cabinet approved in principle the draft of the Digital Security Bill, 2018 repealing section 57 of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, the proceedings of the filed cases under Section 57 will continue.

The IGP came up with the remark while his attention was drawn about the Cabinet's approval of the Digital Security Bill, 2018 repealing section 57 of the ICT Act at a programme at the media centre of police headquarters in the afternoon.

The programme was arranged to launch two books -'Muktijuddhe Prothom Protirudh (First Resistance in the War of Liberation)' and Muktijuddhe Pulisher Bhumika (Role of police in Liberation war).

Though the Section 57 of the ICT Act has been cancelled but proceedings of the cases, filed earlier under the Section, will continue, the IGP said.

Regarding the two new books, Shahidul Hoque said those were published so that present members of the police force can know about contribution of police in the Liberation War of 1971.

He said police of Rajarbagh police lines built first resistance against Pakistani Army when the latter unleashed "Operation Search Light" in the barrack on the dead of night of March 25 in 1971.

Senior officials of the police headquarters were present at the book launching programme.
