2 held with 2.44kg gold bars at Dhaka airport
Customs officials today arrested two persons with 21 gold bars weighting 2.44 kilogrammes at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
One of the arrestees -- Md Based, a resident of Shariatpur -- landed at the airport from Riyadh at 3:15pm this afternoon, according to a Facebook post of Customs Intelligence, Bangladesh.
Acting on a tip-off, the customs detectives with help from Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) officials identified Based after landing and quizzed him at Transit Point in the airport and later recovered the gold bars from him.
After gleaning information from Based, the law enforcers arrested Md Abu Taleb, a security guard of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), who was supposed to receive the gold bars, according to the Facebook post.
The recovered gold is worth around Tk 1.25 crore, the post added.
