Women’s Cricket: Bangladesh end Pak tour with frustrating note

Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team completed their Pakistan tour with a frustrating note losing all the four matches after conceding a six wicket defeat in the 2nd and last ODI match at the Southend Club ground in Karachi on Tuesday.

Bangladesh conceded a 20-run defeat in a close first ODI on Monday, but they suffered a huge six wickets defeat in the 2nd ODI with 69 balls remaining.

With the feat, hosts Pakistan women’s cricket team not only whitewashed touring Bangladesh in both the two-match ODI and two-match T201 home series, but also consolidated position in the ODI format against the Tigress winning four matches against two defeats in their six meetings.

In the 2nd ODI, Bangladesh opted to bat first after winning the toss and scored 123 runs for 9 in stipulated 50 overs.

Going to bat first, Bangladesh made a frustrating start losing seven wickets for 67 runs in 29.2 overs, but lower order debutant Nigar Sultana pairing with number nine Ritu Moni somehow saved Bangladesh from an another awkward situation contributing 47 runs in the 8th wicket stand.

Number eight Nigar Sultana scored an unbeaten 30 runs off 109 balls with two boundaries, Ritu Moni made 48-ball 28 runs hitting three fours while opener Ayesha Rahman was the other major contributor for Bangladesh to reach the double digit, scoring 56-ball 39 runs featuring six fours.

Anam Amin made the major damage to the Bangladesh innings grabbing four wickets for seven runs in her 10 overs spell with five maiden and was adjudged the player of the match. Asmavia Iqbal claimed three wickets for 28 runs.

Chasing a target of 124 runs, Pakistan easily scored the match-winning 124 runs for the loss of four wickets in 38.3 overs with 69 balls to spare.

Pakistani consistent performer Bismah Maroof, who was adjudged the player of the match in the first three matches, again contributed the team highest 41 runs off 66 deliveries with seven hits across the rope.

Besides, Marina Iqbal (31), Nain Abidi (22) and captain Sana Mir (not out 12) were the other main scorers for Pakistan.

Nahida Akhter took two Pakistani wickets conceding 22 runs while Rumana Ahmed bagged one for 13 runs.
