JCD ex-president Helal, 60 BNP men remanded
A Dhaka court today placed former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president Azizul Bari Helal and 60 BNP men on remand in connection with three cases filed over Tuesday’s attack on policemen in Dhaka.
Helal and 32 BNP leaders and activists were put on five-day remand each in a case filed with Ramna Police Station while 28 other BNP men were placed on two-day remand in two other cases filed with Shahbagh Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib passed the order after police produced them before the court seeking remands for them.
Detectives last night arrested Helal from Moghbazar area while the 60 BNP men were arrested from different parts of the city.
Hundreds of BNP men swooped on police Tuesday and snatched away some of their fellows, who were detained, from police. Three policemen were injured and a prison van was vandalised in the attack.
The incident happened when the motorcade of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia was crossing the area on way to her Gulshan home from a court in Bakshibazar.
Yesterday, three cases were filed against several hundred BNP men, including some of its top leaders, over the incidents.
