Turning Ruins Into Rubies
Several factories in Hazaribagh and Kamrangirchar areas of Dhaka are turning seemingly useless plastic bottles into new items. Every day, a huge quantity of discarded plastic is collected from landfills and sorted out. Later, they are cut into smaller pieces and melted in a furnace to make various products. Most of the work is done manually. The items are exported and they bring in a good amount of foreign currencies. However, the working condition at the factories is questionable. Sometimes, children are seen working there. This industry requires more attention from the government and associated authorities to ensure growth.
