Barbwire along Myanmar border to stop intrusion: Minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today told the parliament that his government has drawn up a plan to set up barbwire fence along the Myanmar border to prevent intrusion.
Speaking in reply to lawmaker’s queries, he also spoke of constructing around 271-kilometre ring road from ShahpariDwip to Myanmar for the same purpose.
Khan said, the effort will also be meant for curbing drug smuggling and criminal activities committed on the bordering area. “It has been undertaken considering the country’s law and order situation.”
85,486 foreigners work in Bangladesh
In reply to a separate query, the home minister informed the House that some 85,486 foreigners from 44 different countries have been working in Bangladesh legally.
Of them, some 35,386 are from India and 13,268 Chinese, who have been involved in various professions in the country, he said in a scripted answer.
“Of the total, 67,885 have been operating their own businesses,” Kamal told parliament while responding to a question of opposition lawmaker Mayeedul Islam.
Besides, 8,300 foreign nationals are working as experts, 3682 are officials, 2105 are sports person or sports organizer, 922 are investors, 804 are personal staffs, 727 are technicians, 561 are NGO personalities, 400 are researchers and 132 are holiday workers.
Attack on police from Khaleda’s motorcade
In reply to a supplementary question, the home boss said the January 30 attack on police was carried out from the motorcade of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia when she was passing through the High Court area on that day.
“They vandaliseda prison van during the sudden attack. The motorcade of Khaleda Zia was passing through the area when the incident took place. The incident took place in front of her motorcade,” Kamal said while responding to the supplementary question of Fazilatun Nessa Indira.
Claiming that the attackers snatched away two rifles from the possessions of police, Kamal said police brought the situation under control with patience.
He added that the attackers are being identified through screening video footage. “The miscreants will be brought to book after identifying them,” he said.
