Awami League General Secretary and Roads Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia went to Sylhet by road to create pressure on court about the verdict of her corruption case.

"Khaleda Zia could choose to go to Sylhet by air instead of road as she had no political programme. She went to Sylhet for offering ziarat at the shrines of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) and Shah Paran (RA)," he told journalists after an agreement-signing ceremony at Bridge Bhaban in Dhaka city.

Quader said Khaleda Zia went to Sylhet for a showdown and to create pressure on court about the verdict of the corruption case on February 8.

"Side by side she wants to create a political pressure on the government in the name of offering ziarat," he added.

Mentioning the Dhaka-Sylhet highway as a busy route, he said the showdown created traffic jam on the road and the law enforcers had to take necessary steps to clear the road.

The minister said the movement of BNP meant anarchy and added “if BNP wants to create anarchy like 2014, the law enforcers will give a befitting answer to them”.
