Shamsuzzaman Dudu arrested: Police
BNP Vice-chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu was arrested from Matsya Bhaban area in Dhaka today, police said.
Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed it to The Daily Star this afternoon.
Abdul Razi, president of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal of Bangshal unit, in the morning said that Shamsuzzaman Dudu was picked up by police around 12:30pm.
He was heading towards Shahbagh from Matsya Bhaban area on his car when he was picked up, Razi said.
His arrest came amid on-going detention of a number of BNP leaders and activists throughout the country following demonstrations held by the party protesting the conviction of BNP Chief Khaleda Zia in a corruption case.
A special court on February 8 sentenced Khaleda to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
