BNP leaders to meet Khaleda lawyers this afternoon

BNP senior leaders will sit with the lawyers of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia this afternoon to fix up the next legal step to release their chief from jail.

The meeting will be held at BNP chief’s Gulshan office around 5:00pm, Syrul Kabir Khan, an official of Khaleda's press wing, told The Daily Star.

Khaleda's Conviction: BNP announces new programme

Khaleda's counsels are yet to get the certified copy of the verdict in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. After getting the copy, they will appeal to the higher court against the judgement and seek bail. 

Yesterday, the BNP senior leaders met with the leaders of its professional body. It announced fresh agitation programmes demanding release of Khaleda after its first spell of agitation programmes ended on February 14.

On Tuesday, the party leaders briefed diplomats about Khaleda Zia's conviction and the party’s next course of action.

The BNP chief landed in jail on February 8 after a special court in Dhaka had sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the corruption case.
