Manoj Bajpayee criticizes mainstream cinema
Manoj Bajpayee is one of the few actors who has never been afraid to express their opinions unabashedly in the diplomatic and politically correct realm of Bollywood. In other words, he has the audacity to call a spade a spade. In a recent interview, Bajpayee's fearless avatar came to life once again as he bluntly distinguished between blockbuster cinema and "good" cinema. Bajpayee stated that he has no issues with the term "mainstream cinema". He maintains that when a movie's form is one-dimensional and it is able to garner emotional response from a common man, then and only then can it be called "mainstream cinema". Although he acknowledged that one of the biggest goals of mainstream cinema is to do well at the box office, he also said that entering the "hundred crore club" does not instantly make a cinema "good". A bad film with a 200 crore business will still be a bad film, and is fated to get lost in the abyss of time.
