Govt is provoking BNP to create violence: Fakhrul
BNP blamed the government for “provoking the party to create a violent situation” in the country by launching attacks on their peaceful programmes.
“The ministers of this illegal government are continuously making provocations to make a volatile situation in the country but we are very carefully avoiding it,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in Dhaka.
Condemning the police attack on BNP’s black-flag show, the BNP leader said they would carry out peaceful programmes in the coming days too even after the provocation of the ruling party.
Fakhrul further questioned, “Why should the party have to take permission for all sorts of programmes. Why did police launch an attack on BNP’s peaceful movement? Why should we not be allowed to show black-flag standing on the footpath?”
“It is our fundamental right,” Fakhrul said. He further questioned, “Should we take permission from police to hold any meeting inside our house?”
Police allegedly used water cannons and batons on the BNP leaders and activists today to foil their “black-flag” show arranged to protest the denial of permission for holding a rally in Dhaka on Thursday.
The law enforcers also picked up Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, joint secretary general of BNP, and 11 other party men from in front of the party central office in Nayapaltan, our staff correspondent reports quoting witnesses.
