1st phase to separate conjoined Rabeya-Rokaia done
Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) today successfully completed the first step to separate conjoined twins Rabeya and Rokaiya of Pabna.
A team of doctors including two specialist surgeons from Hungary conducted an operation on the 18-month-old twins to detach the connected blood vessel in their heads, reports BBC Bangla quoting Dr Md Shafikul Islam, a neuro-surgeon of DMCH.
As a result of the operation, the twins will grow separate active blood vessels which will eventually help build different frames of their heads, the doctor said.
The doctors will conduct the next operation on the twins after they grow the separate blood vessels which will take approximately three months, added the neuro-surgeon.
The whole process of separating the conjoined twins could take six months, the doctor also said.
The twin underwent five hours’ operation and are conscious now, Md Rafikul Islam, the father of the twins told BBC Bangla.
