BNP begins leafleting campaign
BNP has begun its countrywide leafleting campaign as part of its peaceful protest programmes to press for release of their Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
Party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi began the campaign by distributing leaflets in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office this morning.
BNP’s standing committee members, secretary general and senior leaders are carrying out the leafleting campaign across key strategic points in Dhaka metropolitan.
Elsewhere, the campaign is being carried out across all district towns of Bangladesh.
MANIKGANJ CHAIRMAN HELD
Meanwhile in Manikganj, an Upazila Parishad chairman was detained while distributing leaflets.
Chairman Ataur Rahman Ata, also former president of district Juba Dal, was distributing leaflets at Shaheed Rafik road in the town around 10:45 am when Manikganj police detained him, reports our local correspondent.
“Ata has been detained for distributing leaflets without any permission from the authorities,” said Hanif Kadri, a sub-inspector(SI) of Manikhanj Sadar Sadar Police Station.
The detainee has been kept at the DB office, Mahfuzur Rahman, superintendent of Manikganj police said. “A case will be filed against Ata in this connection,” the SP said.
