“Swapnajaal” gets uncut censor clearance
Giasuddin Selim's long-running big screen project, “Swapnajaal”, is finally ready for release. The film has received an uncut censor clearance certificate, and is likely to release in the first week of April.
N Rashed Chowdhury, creative director for the film's production house Bengal Creations, confirmed the news to The Daily Star. “We have received the censor certificate without any cuts,” he said, adding that the producers have primarily set April 6 as the release date.
The film was cleared by the preview committee for joint production films in the first week of Febuary, following which the film was sent to the censor board.
The Bangladesh-India joint production is Giasuddin Selim's follow-up to 2009's smash hit “Monpura”, and puts Dhallywood star Pori Moni and newcomer Yash Rohan in the central roles. It also boasts a formidable supporting cast from both Bangladesh and India, including Fazlur Rahman Babu, Misha Sawdagar, Iresh Zaker, Shahidul Alam Sacchu, Rajat Ganguly, Reshmi Sen and Ashish Chakrabarty.
“Swapnajaal”, set in the '90s in suburbs of Bangladesh and India's West Bengal against the backdrop of communal riots, is a love story between two young souls. The first look of the film was unveiled on December 31 on the closing day of the Bengal Classical Music Festival, and promises a sensitive, touching story with ample conflicts and drama. Pori Moni in particular impressed in that trailer in her lead character, stepping out of her usual glamorous roles in commercial films for a stripped down yet complex character.
“Swapnajaal” went into pre-production as early as November 2015, with principal photography commencing in February 2016 in Chandpur. The film was initially heard to be releasing in February this year, but that decision was later scrapped.
