BNP to hold rally on March 11 for Khaleda’s release
BNP today decided to hold a rally at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan on March 11 to press home its demand for immediate release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
The party has also sought permission from the authorities concerned to hold the rally on that day, Rizvi Ahmed, senior joint secretary general of the party, said while addressing a press conference at its Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.
"We have already sent letters to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Department of Public Works seeking permission for holding the rally," he said.
The BNP leader also blasted the government for letting loose the police forces to disrupt today's countrywide peaceful leaflet distribution campaign.
Earlier, the party sought permission from the authorities concerned to hold a rally in the same venue last month but denied of permission showing cause of programmes of the International Mother Language Day and Ekushey Book Fair.
On February 8, former Prime Minister Khaleda landed in jail after a special court sentenced her to five years rigorous imprisonment in with Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
