Traders from all over the country come to the capital's Gabtoli cattle market to sell their livestock. But what happens when some of the animals perish at the market. To be exact, what happens to the bodies? This photojournalist stumbled upon the answer, which is not only alarming, but also has a direct impact on environment and human health alike. To make some quick bucks, locals take the dead animals from the market, much to the approval of the traders, and drag those to the Bongshi river bank near the Gabtoli bridge. They skin the cow, collect the rawhide for selling and dump the body of the animal right into the river, whose very water many of their family members use for various chores.
