HC clears Falu of relief scam case
The High Court today scrapped the trial proceedings of a relief scam case filed against BNP leader Mosaddek Ali Falu during the regime of army-backed caretaker government.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim came up with the verdict after hearing a petition filed by Falu for quashing the trial proceedings of the case.
The HC cleared Falu of the charges, as he was not involved in any criminal offence mentioned in the case, Falu’s lawyer Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain told The Daily Star.
He said the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station against Falu and few others on charge of misappropriating government’s relief tin in 2007.
Later, a Dhaka court framed charges against Falu and others in the case, Advocate Khandker Mahbub said, adding that Falu has been on bail in the case since long ago.
ACC lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told this correspondent that the commission is yet to decide whether it will move any appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against the HC verdict.
