Dr Shahana first BSMMU pro-VC
Prof Dr Shahana Akhter Rahman, chairperson of the paediatric department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), has been appointed as the first pro-vice chancellor of the institution.
She took charge of the office yesterday, a day after President Abdul Hamid appointed her to the post of pro-VC (academic).
Born in Dhaka, Dr Shahana went to Kamrunnesa High School and Holy Cross College. In 1982, she graduated from Dhaka Medical College. She earned her FCPS degree in paediatrics in 1990.
Dr Shahana is the wife of former Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman, and together they have three daughters.
