Quader thanks dwellers for enduring yesterday’s gridlock

Also expresses regrets for the suffering

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today expressed his regrets for suffering of the commuters in Dhaka city during its yesterday’s rally at Suhrawardy Udyan marking historic March 7.

He also thanked the city dwellers for their cooperation in holding the programme successfully, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said in a statement.

AL organised the rally marking Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic March 7 speech which has been included in the Memory of the World International Register, a list of the world's important documentary heritage maintained by Unesco.

Thousands of people suffered traffic snarl-ups yesterday due to the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

Obaidul Quader, after attending the rally sought cooperation from the people to make the rally a success.

He urged during the rally, “You might be suffering on the roads. But please be patient and cooperate with us in observing the historic day”.

Throughout the day, traffic interruptions were observed in areas around Suhrawardy Udyan, as police closed down Shahbagh, Kataban, Bangla Motor, Farmgate, High Court, Mirpur, Segunbagicha, Bijoynagar, Kakrail and some other intersections to facilitate the passage of the arriving AL supporters.

This also caused severe tailbacks along Manik Mia Avenue, Mirpur Road, Karwan Bazar, Bijoy Sarani, Paltan, Moghbazar and other adjacent areas in Dhaka.Buses carrying AL activists were seen parked haphazardly on the roads around the venue.
