EC drafts changes in 38 constituencies of 16 dists

The Election Commission has published a draft bringing change in 38 constituencies of 16 districts.

“The draft list is published today and if anyone has any objection or anything to say can apply to the commission till April 1 at 5:00pm,” Election Commission Acting Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed today made the disclosure after a meeting of the election commissioners at the Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka.

Ahmed said the final list of the constituencies will be published on April 30 after settling the objections.

The drafted delimited constituencies are -- Nilphamari3, 4; Rangpur 1,3,4; Kurigram 3,4; Pabna 1,2; Magura 1,2; Khulna 3,4; Satkhira3,4; Jamalpur 4,5; Dhaka 2,3,7,14,19; Narayanganj 4, 5; Shariatpur 2, 3; Moulvibazar 2,4; Brahmanbaria5, 6; Comilla 1,2,6,10; Noakhali 4, 5; and Chittagong 7, 8.

The next parliamentary elections will be held under the final list of the constituency.

Joining the EC’s dialogue last year, some registered political parties proposed not to change the delimitation of constituencies ahead of the next polls as it will invite controversies and complexities.

But some other parties, including BNP, suggested restoration of the pre-2008 delimitation of constituencies.

The ATM Shamsul Huda- led commission brought massive changes in 133 constituencies prioritising the population size in 2008.

The previous commission, headed by KaziRakibuddin Ahmad, redrew the boundaries of 87 constituencies in 2013 ahead of the 10th parliamentary elections.
