After rescue, 90 turtles released into Gorai river
A total of 90 turtles of a rare species were released into the Gorai river in Magura after law enforcers rescued them from an alleged smuggler this morning.
Forest officials released them into the river at Kamarkhali in Magura Sadar upazila around 11:00am, a correspondent reports quoting Rakibul Islam, an official of forest department in the district.
A police team acting on a tip-off raided a Satkhira-bound bus from Chittagong on Dhaka-Khulna highway and rescued the turtles from one Lutfar Rahman early today, said Safur Ali, officer-in-charge of Magura Ramnagar Highway Police Outpost.
Lutfar was detained for trying to smuggle the turtles to India, the OC said adding that a case was filed with Magura Sadar Police Station against him in this connection.
