Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today expressed high optimism of victory in the next parliamentary election and said “it is just a matter of formality”.

“People are happy with the development of the government. We are not worried of result in the next general elections. Our victory is just a matter of formality,” he said.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at a function in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, on the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Claiming that his party won the fear of ill-fate in the next general election by ensuring the country's overall development, Quader said people have already rejected BNP.

The next parliamentary election is scheduled to be held at the end of this year. The BNP boycotted the last parliamentary elections in 2014, demanding election under a non-partisan interim government.

Awami League is trying to take-over peoples’ minds while BNP planning to foil the next general electionsby creating volatile situation in the country, the Awami League leader said.

BNP is engaged in holding secret talks with people from home and abroad to create an unstable situation in the country and to foil the next general election, Quader said.

"But, we believe that the situation like January 5, 2014 will not reappear," he added.
