The Cherry on Top
Thank you for your time! Tell us about the response you received for Noorjahan.
To be honest, I am quite overwhelmed by the response. I am grateful that I was in this amazing film and the audience loved it. The people who went to see the film have gone on to praise me a lot. The film is spreading like wildfire and positive word of mouth is one of the primary reasons behind it. This is a great thing and people are heading towards the cinema halls. Let's see what happens in the future.
A lot of people have said that this film belongs to Puja Cherry. What do you think about that?
(Laughs) People have said that out of love, and I feel lucky to be loved by the audience to this extent. I indeed have given it my all in terms of effort and I am glad that it paid off. This is a very big achievement for me.
Everyone knew you as a model for television advertisements. How has the transition been from model to actor?
When I was younger, I did a lot of advertisements as well as child roles in films like Bhalobashar Rong, Tobuo Bhalobashi and Agni. Those didn't take too much time to be honest. This is why Noorjahan was such a different experience, as the film was all about me. It was eye-opening. The fact that people are saying that I have everything that is needed to become a top leading lady is very encouraging. When I saw positive comments on social media sites such as Facebook and Youtube, I was overwhelmed. I am indebted to everyone who supported me throughout this transition.
Tell us about your current projects. What are you busy with at the moment?
I'm doing a film called Prem Amar, which will be directed by the renowned director Raj Chakraborty. Poramon 2 is coming out very soon and it was directed by Raihan Rafi, I am acting opposite Siam Ahmed in the movie. The poster has created a lot of hype for the film, let's see where that leads.
Who are your inspirations in the film industry?
I am a huge fan of Suchitra Sen. Her natural acting, beautiful eyes and the expressions that she could pull off with it are all amazing. Besides her, I love Babita ma'am, Kobori ma'am and Shabnoor ma'am as well.
Tell us a secret of yours.
Well, very few people know that I write poetry! I write every day on Facebook and my personal diary. You could say that it is a hobby of mine.
Who would you say had the biggest role in you becoming the person you are today?
It would definitely be my mother, Jharna Roy. She has encouraged me on every step of the way. My entire family has, in fact, played a huge role in pushing me towards my success.
