DMP allows BNP to hold rally Mar 30
Dhaka Metropolitan Police allowed BNP to hold its planned rally at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital on March 30.
“We allowed BNP to hold its rally at IEB on Friday,” M Asaduzzaman Miah, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told BSS today.
Earlier in the day, BNP has postponed its March 29 rally in Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan as the party did not get permission from the authorities for holding the rally slated for demanding release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Prothom Alo reports.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said this at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan office today.
The BNP leader said they have been compelled to postpone the rally as the government did not give permission to hold the rally, the Bangla daily reports.
The government has shown its autocratic behaviour through denial of the permission to such a big party like BNP, Rizvi said.
Yesterday, BNP walked up to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan to secure permission for a rally on March 29 that will press for release of BNP Chief Khaleda, who is now in jail in a graft case.
