SC asks lower court judges to write Bangla dates with English ones

The Supreme Court administration has directed the lower court judges to write the Bangla years and dates along with English ones in their judgments from now in order to show honour to the mother tongue -- Bangla.

SC Registrar General Dr Md Zakir Hossain issued a circular yesterday to this effect under the instruction Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.

“We have undiluted respect and love of Bangla. Mentioning Bangla years and dates along with those in English in the verdicts is absolutely desired and required in order to show honour to Bangla. It has been noted by this court (Supreme Court) that Bangla years and dates are not mentioned in the judgments of the subordinate courts although English years and dates are cited in those judgments,” the SC registrar said in the circular.
