7yr-old dies in Dhaka after lift malfunction
A seven-year-old girl died after she was slammed between the doors of an apartment’s faulty lift, hauled up and banged with the roof in Shantinagar, Dhaka.
It happened at 16-storied Green Peace apartment around 10:30pm last night, Abu Siddique, an inspector at Paltan Police Station, told The Daily Star this evening.
Victim Albira Rahman used to live with her parents at the 15th floor of the apartment. Last night, the family was heading out and boarded the lift together.
After the family got off at the ground floor, the girl was slammed by the gates of the lift. Trapped, the girl was hauled and banged to the roof as the lift moved up, the inspector said.
The girl was rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Inhabitants of the apartment told The Daily Star on condition of anonymity that the lifts in their building have been malfunctioning for some time now, but no attention was paid to it.
