2 RMG workers killed in Savar road crashes
Two garment workers were killed in separate road accidents in Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka today.
The victims are Mamataj, 25, and Phul Banu, 25, workers of Bandu Garment Factory and Palmal Group respectively.
Mamataj was killed under the wheels of a running truck hours after Phul Banu was crushed to death by a human hauler early today.
A truck hit Mamataj in Gorat area on Dhaka-Tangail highway around 6:15pm, leaving her dead on the spot, Mahsin Kadir, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, told out Savar correspondent.
She was on her way back home from the factory, reports our Savar correspondent.
On information, RMG workers took to the streets and blocked the highway until the police brought the situation under control around 7:00pm, he added.
They also ransacked at least three vehicles.
The body was kept at the Ashulia Police Station.
Earlier in the day, Phul Banu was run over by a human hauler at Jamgora around 8:15am, said officer-in-charge (investigation) of Ashulia Police Station Dipak Chandra Shaha.
RMG workers blocked Dhaka-Tangail highway for more than an hour and vandalised two minibuses protesting the death, reports our Savar correspondent.
Transport movement on the highway remained suspended following the agitation, causing seven-kilometre tailback on the both lanes.
