‘ACC should use its legal powers to curb corruption’

The Anti-Corruption Commission should use its legal and organisational powers to combat corruption, Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh Iftekharuzzaman recommended today.

“Everyone is equal in the eyes of law and the ACC has to establish this through its work,” the TIB executive director said at a programme at Jatiya Press Club.

Human Rights Forum Bangladesh organised the programme to present a set of recommendations sent to the forum by the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) of UN recently.

Any measure should not be taken based on anyone’s status or position, said Iftekharuzzaman.

The CESCR is the body of 18 independent experts that monitors implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights by its states parties.
