Govt to buy paddy at Tk 26, rice at Tk 38 per Kg

The government has decided to buy Boro rice and paddy at Tk 38 and Tk 26 a kilogramme.

The decision was taken today at a meeting of food planning and monitoring committee where Food Minister Qamrul Islam presided at his secretariat office.

After the meeting the food minister told reporters, this season the cost for producing a kilogramme of paddy was Tk 24  and rice Tk 36.

The food minister also said, the government has decided to buy nine lakh tonnnes of rice and 1.5 lakh tones of paddy in this Boro season.

The procurement drive will start on May 2 and continue till August 31, he said.
