Shakib Hyderabad’s MVP in Powerplay
Bangladesh's ace all-rounder bagged two wickets in the 14th over against Rajasthan Royals in his team Hyderabad Sunriser's opening fixture of the IPL. The two wickets helped Sunrisers restrict Rajasthan to 125, but according to a special report by ESPNCricinfo, Shakib actually caused the most damage in the Powerplay.
ESPNCricinfo has introduced 'Smart Stats', a system to sort relevant data metrics which matches T20's pulse – a game decided by shorter units.
According to the Smart Stats system, Shakib was the most successful bowler for the Sunrisers outfit which probably boast the best attack in the IPL this year.
ESPNCricinfo's Smart Economy Rate system judges a bowler's economy rate taking into consideration the phase of the match i.e Powerplay, middle overs etc and also the economy rate of the other bowlers during that match.
Rajastahan picked up 48 runs in the Powerplay but while Bhuvneshwar Kumar went for runs, Shakib conceded just 12 in his two Powerplay overs. That gave him a Smart Economy Rate of 4.85 – significantly better than the other bowlers who had 8.2.
