Child shot dead in Noakhali, father injured

A ten-year-old boy was killed and his father injured after being shot by a criminal in Noakhali’s Hatia municipality.

The deceased child was identified as Nirab, 10, a fifth grader at a local madrassa and son of Md Miraj Uddin, 32, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.

Miraj and Nirab were shot when a local criminal named Md Zinnur fired shots at them at Miar Bazar around 7:30pm last night. Zinnur is said to have fired shots indiscriminately during the attack.

Nirab was first taken to Hatia Upazila Health Complex, and later to Noakhali General Hospital where he was declared dead around midnight.

Hatia health complex’s Deputy Assistant Medical Officer Biman Chandra Acharya said Nirab had bullet injuries to the head and body. His father was shot on the hand and back.

Hatia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamruzzaman Sikder said Zinnur is a local criminal and that he had previous enmity with Miraz.
