Owners of 102 unfit vehicles fined in Dhaka
The mobile courts of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) today fined owners of 102 vehicles for plying those on Dhaka streets without fitness certificates.
During a crackdown at Manik Mia Avenue, two mobile courts of the BRTA also lodged at least 102 cases and realised Tk 205,000 in this connection.
Among the 102 vehicles, two were dumped while documents of three other vehicles were seized as drivers of the vehicles failed to pay the fine.
Noor Mohammad Mazumdar, director (enforcement) of BRTA, told The Daily Star that the drive against such unfit vehicles will continue to ease the traffic jam in the capital.
The mobile courts of BRTA started the drive on the Manik Mia Avenue around 9:00 am with the presence of police that continued till 2:00 pm.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader visited the spot. He personally checked the fitness of some CNG-run vehicles.
Quader, general secretary of the ruling Awami League, also ordered to take step against two state-run BRTC buses for plying without fitness certificate and a privately-run Bikash Paribahan bus for charging extra fares for passengers.
