The parliamentary body on public administration today opined for bringing “logical reform” to the existing quota system in civil service, upholding the spirit of the constitution.

"The parliamentary body thinks that the reform to the quota system has to be done on logical ground so that it is acceptable to all," HN Ashiqur Rahman, chief of the parliamentary watchdog told reporters after emerging from a meeting at the Parliament Complex.

"Though, our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced to abolish the quota system in government jobs, but we think the system should remain and a logical reform should be brought instead," Ashiqur said.

Earlier, the parliamentary body held a meeting at the Parliament Complex to discuss the matter.

On April 11, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in the parliament, made an announcement to abolish the quota system in the face of persistent large-scale of protests of university students and job-seekers across the country against the government’s reservation of quota in public services.

The prime minister, however, said a different arrangement will be made so that members of ethnic minorities and physically-challenged people can get government jobs.
