Verdict on domestic help Khadiza May 6
A Dhaka court yesterday fixed May 6 to deliver its verdict on Khadiza Akhter Sumi, a co-accused with Oishee Rahman, in the case filed over the double murder of a police inspector and his wife in August 2013.
Judge Md Al Mamun of Dhaka Juvenile Court set the date after hearing arguments from both prosecution and defence.
In August 2013, Oishee Rahman, stabbed dead both of her parents Mahfuzur Rahman, inspector of Special Branch (SB) of Police, and Shapna Rahman in their residence at Chamelibagh in the capital.
Khadiza Akhter Sumi, a domestic help, allegedly assisted Oishee in removing the bodies of the couple.
Sumi gave confessional statement before a magistrate on August 24, 2013 and said she saw the killing of the couple by their daughter Oishee and assisted her to remove the bodies.
Following an investigation, Abual Khaiyer Matubbar, inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of Police and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted two charge sheets -- one against Oishee and her two friends and the other against Sumi in March 2014.
The juvenile court framed charges against Sumi on May 20, 2014 and recorded statements of 20 prosecution witnesses including complainant and IO of the case.
Meanwhile, the trial against Oishee and two others was completed in the Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 of Dhaka and it gave death sentence to Oishee while one was given three years in jail and the other one was acquitted.
Earlier on June 5 last year, the HC commuted Oishee's death sentence to life in jail.
