United movement to free Khaleda: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today underscored the need for a united movement to press for the demand of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release.
“We call upon all parties to unite under demand of Khaleda Zia’s release. Let’s bring her out of jail and restore the voting rights of the people. There’s no alternative to restoring democracy,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul was speaking at a human chain programme of the party, held at the base of their Nayapaltan central office this morning.
“They (government) have kept Khaleda Zia behind bars to curb the movement for democracy. If she is free, they cannot keep their one-party rule for long,” Fakhrul said.
He also alleged that the government is mentally torturing Khaleda Zia by keeping her in an abandoned prison. “Now, they are not allowing anyone to meet our leader.”
The party’s standing committee member Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, who also spoke, alleged that the government is hatching a conspiracy to repeat the undemocratic election of January 5, 2014. “That is why they have kept Khaleda Zia behind bars in a false case.”
