No army deployment in local govt polls: EC
The Election Commission has decided not to deploy army in local government elections, including in Gazipur and Khulna city corporation polls scheduled to be held on May 15.
EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed said this today at a press briefing after a meeting at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka over law and order situation ahead of the two city elections.
High officials of law enforcing agencies took part in the meeting chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.
Replying to a query over the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), Helal said the commission is thinking to use the EVM in some polling centres in the two city polls but has not selected those yet.
The EC secretary further said they will hold a meeting with Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission and mobile operators so that no one can spread rumour in social media over the upcoming city elections.
