“Avengers: Infinity War” fever grips Dhaka
Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest film to date, “Avengers: Infinity Wars” has been building up hype worldwide since it was first announced, with 10 years of big screen fandom culminating into a stellar cast and a long-teased villain. The Russo Brothers-helmed film, which releases in the US today, was already tracking for a monstrous $225 million opening weekend, and it seems like film lovers of Bangladesh are on board the hype train.
Star Cineplex has been consistently releasing big Hollywood titles on the same day as their US release for a few years now, and premiered the film last evening to a list of invited guests before releasing it today. People lined up in front of the Bashundhara City shopping mall reportedly from as early as 6am yesterday to get advance tickets, after the limited release online tickets sold out in minutes of going live on their web site.
“We have not had such demand for a film; this is a record,” Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, senior manager at Star Cineplex told The Daily Star. “People lined up since dawn at the gates of the shopping mall, and we have sold out for the weekend.” He informed that despite running 13 screenings of the film per day, the first 20% of people on queue took all the tickets for Friday. “We usually only sell tickets one day in advance, but considering the pressure we had to sell for both days of the weekend,” he added.
“Avengers: Infinity Wars” is maintaining a healthy 86% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has received positive reviews from early screenings. The film brings together the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes, casting Robert Downey Jr. (as Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Tom Holland (Spider-man), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Racoon), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Benedict Wong (wong), Karren Gillan (Nebula) and Josh Brolin playing the villain Thanos. A sequel of the film is set for release May 19, 2019.
