JU female student harassed in Shyamoli, 2 held

Police today detained a hawker and his sister-in-law on charge of assaulting a female student of Jahangirnagar University from Dhaka’s Shyamoli area this morning.

Shaon, 25, who sells garment, hurled sexually explicit words at the student of Anthropology department of the university when she was crossing the Mirpur Road near Shyamoli footbridge, GG Bishwash, officer-in-charge of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, told The Daily Star.

As the student protested the incident, Shaon’s sister-in-law Shumi Begum, 35, who also sells tea in the area, rushed in and held the locks of the student and assaulted her, the OC said.

On information, police reached the spot and held the two from the area around 11:30am.
