‘Road crashes kill 2,123 in 4 months’

At least 2,123 people were killed and 5,558 injured in 1,871 road accidents in last four months across the country, which is higher than the same period of last year, a passenger platform said today.

Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity prepared the statistics on the basis of news reports of national and regional newspapers and online news portals.

Total 1979 people were killed and 4727 were injured in 1765 accidents in first four months of last year, it said adding that the number of accidents, death and injured saw 1.06, 1.44 and 8.31 percent rise respectively compared to the same period of last year.

The organisation released the statistics when mismanagement in road transport sector, reckless driving and race among vehicles to pick passengers came to the fore, leaving several passengers died or injured some others critically.
