A woman and her 18-month-old daughter were burnt alive in a fire at Sonaidanga village in Gaibandha Sadar upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Marzina Begum, 33, wife of Ashraful Kabiraj of the village, and her daughter Asma-ul-Husna.

Quoting locals, UP Chairman Emarul Islam Sabin said the fire originated from an earthen stove around 3:30pm when Marzina was sleeping along with her minor daughter and soon engulfed the entire house.

Neighbours rushed to the spot and doused the blaze. They also recovered the charred bodies of the duo.
