Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said necessary actions will be taken against Deputy Inspector General of Police Mizanur Rahman if the allegations of threatening a female news presenter against him are proven.

The minister came up with the remarks while replying to a reporter’s query emerging from a programme titled ‘Gourab 71’ (Glorious 71) held at Bangla Academy premises.

Replying to a query whether Mizan will be condoned for saying sorry regarding the incident, Kamal said, “I would like to throw a question to you (reporters), if he were condoned for saying sorry, would the ongoing legal process against him continue? The legal process has not stopped; actions would be taken against him if the allegations brought against him are proven.”

DIG Mizan, now attached to the PHQ, was an additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) before being withdrawn on January 9.

He allegedly issued threats to a female news presenter which he acknowledged and said “sorry” on May 3, the day the ACC quizzed him over amassing illegal wealth.

Regarding giving threats to journalists, Mizan on the day said, “In a conversation with a female journalist, I did it. And I'm sorry for that.”

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on May 3 quizzed DIG Mizan for about seven and a half hours to glean information about his alleged illegal wealth.

Mizan was withdrawn as additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) following a marital scandal in January.
