Liton, who was on the run since two lawsuits were filed against him, appeared before a High Court hearing pleading for bail last Monday. He was denied bail and asked to surrender before a Gaibandha court by October 18.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said the order created confusion regarding his arrest. Later, he moved the Supreme Court and obtained a stay on the HC order.

After the apex court's ruling, Liton was arrested from Dhaka's Uttara around 10:00pm last night – days after remaining "traceless". Detectives took him and left for Gaibandha around 11:30pm.

He stands accused in one attempt to murder case, filed by Sourav's father, and another of vandalism and looting in a Gaibandha village soon after the shooting.

Police were however "undecided" over taking the lawmaker in for interrogation, what Sundarganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Israil Hossain said this morning.
