Bapa official dies in Savar road accident
An official of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (Bapa) died as a bus hit him while he was crossing Dhaka-Aricha highway in Hemayetpur area of Savar yesterday, said police.
Uttam Kumar Devnath, 40, was on way to his office in Dhaka, said family.
He was the programme coordinator of Bapa, its Joint Secretary Sharif Jamil confirmed to The Daily Star.
The bus was yet to be identified, said Savar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohshinul Kadir.
“Once we identity the vehicle, we will seize it,” he added.
Abdul Motin, general secretary of Bapa, said Uttam Kumar worked for the environment with Bapa for the last 18 years.
He alleged that the driver's negligence caused the accident.
Orobindu Shaha, brother-in-law of Uttam, said Uttam used to worry about the future of his two children. “Now I wonder how my sister will provide for the kids.”
Uttam commuted to his office in Dhaka everyday from his house in Shingair upazila, he said.
