Compensation over Rajib's death: HC forms 3-member body

The High Court today formed a three-member committee to assess the liabilities and compensation issues in regard to the road accident in which Government Titumir College student Rajib Hossain lost his right arm and later on died last month.

Profs Mowazzem Hossain, director of Accident and Research Institute for Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) will head the committee.

He will nominate another teacher of the institute as its another member and Ilias Kanchan, chairman of 'Nirapad Sorok Chai', will be another member of the committee.

The committee will submit the assessment report to the HC by June 30. The HC will pass an order on July 4 on this issue.

The High Court bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Jahirul Hoque passed the order in line with a Supreme Court directive.

The SC on May 22 asked the HC to form the assessment committee.

Rajib Hossain, a student of Government Titumir College, lost his right hand after it got stuck between two speeding buses competing to overtake each other in Bangla Motor area in Dhaka on April 3.

​After two weeks in coma, Rajib died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 17.

On May 8, following a petition filed by SC lawyer Ruhul Quddus Kazal, the HC ordered the bus authorities to pay Tk 1 crore to Rajib's family.
