Rajshahi University authorities today expelled a student of the university’s Law department for harassing female students of the department through fake Facebook.

The authorities took the decision against Nazmul Hasan Chowdhury Shishir in a syndicate meeting with RU Vice Chancellor Prof M Abdus Sobhan in the chair, our RU correspondent reports quoting Pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Saha.

The decision was taken as the investigation committee, following the victims’ complaints, found Shishir guilty, said Ananda Kumar Saha.

According to the complaints, Shishir, a third-year student, had been harassing some of his female friends sending different 'obscene' messages, photos and videos through a fake Facebook account for long.

Following the complaint, police traced the Facebook account and detained Shishir from Bindopur area on the night March 20.

But they released him on the next day as the students didn't file any case against him.

On March 25, some 12 students of the department submitted written complaints against Shishir to Vice Chancellor, Pro VC, Students Advisor, Dean of Law faculty and Chairman of their department.

The Law department authorities also submitted written complaint to 'Sexual harassment Prevention Cell' of the university after holding an academic meeting on March 27.

Later, the RU authorities formed an investigation committee following the students’ complaint.
