‘Robber’ hurt in Joypurhat ‘gunfight’ dies
An alleged robber, who was injured in a “gunfight” between his cohorts and police at Komorgram village in Joypurhat Sadar upazila last night, died at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra this morning.
The deceased was identified as Rezaul, 37.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Farid Hossain confirmed the death.
Superintendent of Police Nazrul Molla said on a tip-off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police launched a drive there around 10:00pm.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members opened fire at them, prompting the police personnel to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, leaving Rezaul injured with bullets.
Later, police arrested Rezaul while his other associates managed to flee the scene.
Police also recovered a knife and some iron rods from the spot.
Injured Rezaul was first admitted to Joypurhat Adhunik Hospital under police custody from where he was shifted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College as his condition deteriorated.
Later, Rezaul succumbed to his injures at the hospital this morning.
