BNP slams Quader for remarks over anti-drug drive

BNP today criticised Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader terming his remarks over the ongoing anti-drug drive as “unkind mockery with humanity”.

"Quader yesterday said one or two mistakes may happen during such noble operation. What a cruel mockery it is! How can we accept such mistakes that claimed people's lives?” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said in a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.

Referring to the alleged murder of Teknaf ward councillor Akramul Haque, Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said if the victim is innocent, the government will take a legal step against the killing. One or two mistakes may happen during such noble operation.

Pointing finger at the Awami League General Secretary, Rizvi said Quader has ignored the human rights and at the same time he defended the extrajudicial killing like killers.

He said the government is carrying out drives against some insignificant persons like thieves without taking action against the godfathers of the drug rackets.

Blaming the government for not stopping the entrance routes of the narcotic items in Bangladesh, Rizvi said the ruling party lawmakers like Abdur Rahman Bodi with the help of the administration are maintaining the routes of the drug business.

Claiming that around 130 people have been killed in the hands of the government's agencies during the ongoing countrywide anti-drug drive, Rizvi said the screaming of the Akram's family members have not only shocked the people of the country but also the world.

Terming the killing as illegal, Rizvi said, “The government is solely responsible for this killing and it is indulged in the political killing in the name of anti-narcotic drives."
