Four teens die while swimming in pond

Police recovered the floating bodies of four teenage boys from Baishterbari pond of Randhunimura village in Habiganj upazila early Tuesday.

The bodies were of Rahul, 12, and Shamim, 13, sons of Washim of Sukku Commissioner Bari, Raihan, 13, son of Ahsan, and Lion, 12, son of Nazrul Islam.

Locals said they saw the boys bathing in the pond on Monday afternoon. As they did not return home in the evening, their families began searching for them.

An announcement of them going missing was made of over loudspeaker at night.

As devastation gripped the families, the bodies of the boys were found floating in the pond the next morning. After receiving information from locals, police rushed to the spot at 9:00am and recovered the bodies.

Upon observation, three of the bodies were found with a spot on their right hands, while their noses and mouths were bleeding profusely.

Witnesses believe they might have been attacked by venomous snakes.

Police handed over the bodies to their families upon request. They were buried in the village graveyard later that day.

Several hundred people from neighbouring villages gathered at the spot as a pall of gloom descended over Radhunimura.
