2 ‘drug peddlers’ killed in ‘gunfights’ in Tangail, Sirajganj

2 suspected drug peddlers were killed in separate “gunfights” in Tangail and Sirajganj districts while police recovered the body of a suspected drug peddler in Chuadanga today.

In Tangail, police recovered the bullet hit body of a suspected drug peddler from Sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 45, son of late Ali Hossain at Kandapara in Tangail municipal area, reports our Tangail correspondent quoting Sanjit Kumar Roy, superintendent of police (SP) in Tangail.

A “gunfight” took place between two groups of drug peddlers at Charabari area in the early hours today over dividing drugs and money, leaving Mannan dead on the spot, the official said.

On information a team of police recovered the body and sent it to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.

Police recovered a foreign-made pistol and yaba tablets from the spot, he said.

Mannan was a known drug peddler in the area and was an accused in six cases under Narcotics Act, he added.

In Sirajganj, a suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Mahmudpur field area early today, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Jahangir Hossain, 35, son of late Hatem Ali of Railway Colony Purbapara area. He was wanted in seven drug-related cases.

Acting on information that a gang of drug peddlers gathered in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there around 2:00 am, said Mahmud Daud, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the OC claimed, the gangsters opened fire on them which forced the police to fire back in self-defence.

After the gunfight, police recovered the body of Jahangir and one revolver, four bullets, 135 Yaba pills and 25 bottles of Phensidyl from the scene.

Two policemen were also injured in the incident, the OC added.

In Chuadanga, police recovered the body of a suspected drug peddler from Alamdanga upazila.

The deceased was identified as, Oltu Miah, 27, reports our Kushtia correspondent quoting officer-in-charge of Alamdanga Police Station, Abu Jihad Mohammad Fakhrul Alam Khan.

So far, at least 117 people were killed in 'gunfights' with members of law enforcement agencies while 38 bodies of suspected drug peddlers were recovered after reported gun battles between rival groups during the countrywide anti-narcotic drives since May 15, reports UNB.
